Al-Rasheed Development Center Participates in the Central Ceremony Marking the Constitutional Centenary of the Iraqi State

Al-Rasheed Development Center participated in organizing the central ceremony commemorating the constitutional centenary of the Iraqi state, held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the enactment of the 1925 Basic Law—the foundational document that laid the cornerstone for the establishment of the modern Iraqi state and the beginning of its constitutional journey.

This participation stems from the Center’s belief in the importance of consolidating constitutional values and good governance, and promoting public awareness of the role of constitutional institutions in building a strong and stable state founded on the rule of law—recognized as the fundamental guarantor of societal unity and the sustainability of the political system.

The ceremony took place at the historic Parliament building in Baghdad on October 20, in a solemn atmosphere that reflected on a century of political and constitutional transformations that shaped the Iraqi state and recalled the early moments of its modern foundation. The occasion formed part of a national initiative titled “One Hundred Years of the Constitution… A Fortress for Our Unified Nation,” symbolizing the enduring institutional spirit of the state across a century of change.

Al-Rasheed Development Center emphasized that commemorating the constitutional centenary is not merely a remembrance of a historical event, but rather a renewed call to revitalize the concept of the constitutional state as the framework that safeguards rights and freedoms, and to reaffirm the principle of the rule of law as a cornerstone for a more just and democratic future in Iraq.

As part of the ceremony’s program, a short documentary film was screened, offering a visual journey through Iraq’s constitutional history. The film traced the country’s path from the issuance of the 1925 Basic Law, through the successive interim constitutions that followed political upheavals, to the adoption of the 2005 permanent constitution. It drew on rare archival materials and historical photographs documenting the state’s ongoing efforts to build a system grounded in law and institutions.

This event comes within the broader efforts of Al-Rasheed Development Center to strengthen constitutional awareness and connect national memory with contemporary discussions on the state, institutions, and good governance—contributing to the consolidation of constitutional culture and support for Iraq’s democratic reform process.
