- 10-07-2025
Al-Rasheed Development Center organized a dialogue session in Diyala titled “The Next Parliament… At the Crossroads of State and Non-State,” hosting Diyala Provincial Council Member Muthanna Al-Tamimi. The session was held as part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to foster public dialogue on the future of constitutional institutions in Iraq.
The session addressed a range of institutional challenges expected to face the upcoming parliament, foremost among them the effectiveness of its oversight role over government performance, and the legislature’s ability to enact laws that respond to societal aspirations and the current political and economic challenges. Discussions also examined the nature of the relationship between parliament and other branches of government, and its impact on strengthening the logic of statehood and enhancing trust in official institutions.
Participants emphasized the importance of restoring the parliament’s legislative and oversight roles as fundamental pillars of the democratic system, and the need to develop parliamentary mechanisms that ensure greater transparency and accountability while narrowing the trust gap between citizens and elected institutions.
The session concluded with a call to adopt political and legislative visions grounded in expertise and competence, while also creating space for youth-led initiatives to play an active role in public decision-making—contributing to the renewal of political life and broader representation of diverse segments of society.
This session is part of Al-Rasheed Development Center’s broader program aimed at supporting serious discussions on pathways for political and institutional reform, and promoting informed civic participation in national issues—ultimately contributing to the building of a state grounded in institutions and the rule of law.
